As an art enthusiast, I absolutely loved the Portland Art Museum! Walking through the exhibits felt like traveling through time 🕰️—each gallery showcasing different decades and styles, immersing you in the evolution of art.

The highlight for me was the psychedelic art exhibit 🌌—it was super cool. As well as different cities with vintage galleries. The museum offers a perfect mix of classic and contemporary art, and also has a little store for creative and culture enthusiasts to add to their collection, making it a must-visit for anyone who appreciates creativity and culture 🍏☕️

The Portland Art Museum was a great little trip. I went on the first Thursday of the month, which is free every month. I just wanted to see what it was all about, and it wasn't disappointing, although they are doing construction on the building. There are tons of art pieces and sculptures. Everything was in different rooms and organized by category, I believe. Each piece has a little description and the artist's name on it. It's a great activity to do with the family or by yourself. Afterward, you can visit the gift shop. I would recommend visiting.

The museum is currently under going major renovations and over half the place is closed off. Yet they still charge full price and you see only a fraction of the collection. I wasn’t too happy about that.
The psychedelic posters exhibit was cool and very well researched though it got pretty redundant for a Xennial like me.

I spent a significant amount of time in this museum, about two and a half to three hours, because I had a lot of time left in my last day in Portland, and I was not disappointed. The price is a little high, and even the student discount is a measly $3 off the full price, but the quality of the exhibits is worthwhile, especially for a mid-sized and relatively young city on the West Coast. What I saw of the permanent collection was nice but not particularly impressive. There was some beautiful old art, some 18th century stuff, some beautiful impressionist work, and some other newer art that I was less enthused by, the kind of work that claims to be radical but requires a lengthy written description to make any sensations or emotions communicable to the audience. Where this museum really shines for me was in the temporary exhibits that were displayed while I was there, both of which related to the 1960s in a quite playful way. One was on photography and the Beatles, focusing on the moment when the Beatles transformed from a purely national sensation to a true international sensation, coming to America and being swarmed by wild fans. The context provided was quite helpful and comprehensive, and even as a person who thinks of himself as being quite knowledgeable about the Beatles, I felt like I learned a lot. The other was on psychedelic fashion and posters, which was quite comprehensive. The mix of influences from which these artists drew, from Elizabethan England to Art Nouveau to Wild West and native American imagery, was considered thoughtfully and comprehensively. The greatest delight though, was simply in the psychedelic collection itself, which was wild and varied and very stimulating in a purely sensory way. I think the quality of this museum depends highly on the quality of the temporary exhibits offered, so if you like what is being displayed at a given time, I highly recommend coming here.

There was a couple of interesting exhibitions when I visited. One was a collection of photographs by Paul McCartney and another on psychedelic posters. Both were very interesting. There is a smaller permanently collection as wee which includes art by the likes of Monet. The place was very crowded when I visited. One point of note was that the direction you have to go around in the musuem was not very intuitive although the exhibits were in a directional pattern.

Museum was beautiful and the staff was kind and helpful. We had bought drinks at a coffee shop before and thought oh great we probably can’t bring these in. They let us check them at the front 🙂 and get them back at the end (they were iced). Only small complaint is that a whole floor was under construction and the price was the same. Not sure what pictures I can post so only posted a few. The pictures don’t do the actual up front viewing of these paintings.
