Really informative museum that includes a self guided tour of a ship that provided a round the clock beacon for incoming ships in the past. There is an interesting coast guard exhibit and diving exhibit. The kids liked the green screen weatherman exhibit and made a weather report broadcast. The museum was child friendly, my kids enjoyed the exhibits and asked a lot of questions. The museum will be expanding next year, so we will definitely make another trip when the expansion is complete.

Wonderful place to experience the history of Astoria and its contribution to the development of the Columbia River and various ships commissioned for different tasks. The showcase displays are amazing and informative. One could easily spend three or four hours reading through the various short documentaries and audiovisual and written materials. The museum also highlights the contribution of the native people who lived in the area. The scaled-down models of different combat ships and US Coast Guard rescue teams' achievements are impressive. I got to step onto the Columbia ship and experience what life must have been like as maritime personnel, spending treacherous time in violent seas. The entry ticket is $18 for adults.

We went on a Friday and the weather was nice. The tickets were $15 for a student and a senior. I really enjoyed the museum, it is not huge but you also get to walk around the Columbia, a ship parked outside.
There was a little exposition of WWII Japanese flags and how they are trying to return them to the family of Japanese soldier’ families.
The museum is clean and there are tons of information and there are also people that tell you a little about the history of the artifacts in the museum.
Restrooms are clean and there are baby changing stations.

Exceptionally engaging museum - for adults and children alike. Loads of history in a beautiful location. Wonderful ship that can be toured as well. Highlight of our excursion.

A visit here is definitely worth the time. Fantastic exhibits tell the story of the river, the people who call Astoria home, the ships that have wrecked here, its role in WWII, and the USCG members that train in the waters. The museum is in the process of upgrading some of the exhibition spaces which will make it even better. Be sure to take time to tour the Columbia. Do the scavenger hunt for a special prize.

My husband and I were in Astoria and stopped by this place to check it out. It’s definitely worth it if you’re in the area. The ship tour was pretty cool to checkout, I love that it’s still kept in the condition that it was used in vs turning it into something else for tourists. The museum itself was also great, but part of it was closed for renovations. It was a small museum, but o Reall worth it to check it out!

Nice place to spend a few hours. Friendly people. The boat tour was nice and not one question unanswered. Mr. Tour guide, thank you. Im so horrible with names. Nice parking. Check out the new Coast Guard boat from the dock only but was really neat to see. Only down side was the air flow of the building. Maybe we were there at a bad time of year, nothing crazy. The only one-off deal. Didn't stink crazy or very bad. just stale air. A must check out place drove by it some many times. glad we stopped and then took a short walk down the road, checked out a few local places as well
Camera doesn't do justice to how wonderful it looked when taken

Really cool museum. Even though we spent a couple hours there, I could see how you could easily spend a whole day there. There is enough to take in that it would fill a day.
Do recommend.
